En inglés, el pasado simple y el pasado continuo se utilizan para describir acciones en el pasado, pero cada uno tiene un uso específico:

Pasado Simple: Se usa para hablar de acciones que comenzaron y terminaron en el pasado. Por ejemplo, en la frase "She visited her friend yesterday", visited está en pasado simple porque la acción está completa.

Pasado Continuo: Se utiliza para hablar de acciones que estaban en progreso en un momento específico del pasado. Se forma con el verbo "to be" en pasado (was/were) + el verbo principal en su forma -ing. Por ejemplo, en la frase "She was reading when the phone rang", was reading está en pasado continuo porque la acción estaba en progreso cuando ocurrió otra acción.

Completa la forma correcta del verbo en pasado simple o continuo, según corresponda:

They were eating dinner when they heard a strange noise outside.

7 We (sit) on the grass when a cricket (jump) on Anna.

We were sitting on the grass when a cricket jumped on Anna.

8 The documentary (be) very interesting, we learned how people (live) many centuries ago.

The documentary was interesting, we learned how people lived many centuries ago.

9 You (not look) very happy last holiday, you (not smile) as usual.

You didn't look very happy last holidays, you were not (weren't) smiling as usual.

10 '(She/arrive) on time?' 'Yes, the show (start) as she entered the room.'

Did she arrive on time?' 'Yes, the show was starting as she entered the room.

11 I (visit) my grandparents last weekend. They (not be) home.

I visited my grandparents last weekend. They were not home.

12 She (eat) lunch when the phone (ring) .

She was eating lunch when the phone rang.

13 The students (study) for the exam all night. They (feel) very tired.

The students were studying for the exam all night. They felt very tired.

14 I (not see) my friend at the party because he (arrive) late.

I did not see my friend at the party because he arrived late.

15 She (find) a great book at the library. It (be) very expensive.

She found a great book at the library. It was very expensive.

16 They (play) basketball when it (start) raining.

They were playing basketball when it started raining.

17 We (have) a great time at the amusement park. The rides (be) so much fun.

We had a great time at the amusement park. The rides were so much fun.

18 He (buy) a new laptop last month. It (be) very expensive.

He bought a new laptop last month. It was very expensive.

19 They (not have) a good time at the concert because it (be) too noisy.

They did not have a good time at the concert because it was too noisy.

20 She (study) for the final exams last week. She (feel) confident.
